Discussion about VW eLab at Ooltewah Middle

(Megan Oliver) #1

The VW eLab at Ooltewah Middle School is one of 16 VW eLabs in the greater Chattanooga, TN area. Ooltewah Middle is a diverse school that reaches approximately 800 students in grades 6-8. The VW eLab hosts a class for each grade level where connections to core content are made daily. After school activities/clubs are also offered through the lab. These include open lab days, robotics club, an electric car team, and a club centered around engaging girls in STEM fields.

At OMS, we strive to immerse students in digital fabrication through the utilization of The Design Thinking Process. Students and community stakeholders can learn & utilize the skills necessary for digital fabrication using equipment such as robotics kits, 3D printers, laser cutters, microcontrollers, heat presses, and vinyl cutters. They also have access to more traditional fabrication equipment such as power tools and sewing kits. Through our eLab, students can make connections to core content through innovative solutions.
